A Fresh Season, a Calmer Playroom: How Toy Rotation Makes a Difference
It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through May. This year seems to be flying by! This spring has been especially full (in the very best way) because we’ve been busy with YOU. We’ve been so blessed to reconnect with past clients and also meet so many new ones along the way. Truly, there’s nothing better than watching families fall back in love with their spaces.
Last month, week by week, we walked through different spaces in your home, sharing simple, bite‑sized tips to help you declutter and organize. We talked about building a daily decluttering habit, tackling that drawer (you know the one!), and even sorting through the thousands of photos living on our phones. If you missed any of it, I encourage you to go back and take a look.
Spring is a busy season, but it’s also the perfect time to bring a little more calm into your home & your routine.
Recently, we had the joy of helping the sweetest family create a playroom that truly works for their growing family. By organizing multiple rooms, creating intentional storage solutions, and dedicating an entire room as the playroom, we were able to design a space that supports both everyday life and imaginative play.
Labeled bins and baskets create simple, kid‑friendly systems that make cleanup easier and support long‑term playroom organization. Clear categories help toys return to their homes—and help parents maintain calm.
Our goal was to transform the playroom into a space that felt lighter, calmer, and easier to maintain, without taking away the fun. We created clear zones and storage solutions, while being intentional about what stayed in the room and perhaps what found a new home.
This shelving system combines open and closed storage to balance accessibility with visual calm. Grouping toys by category encourages independent play while keeping the playroom feeling intentional and organized.
In this post, I wanted to highlight toy rotation.
Why toy rotation is a game-changer
For our clients with busy kids, we find that toy rotation is an impactful way to maintain organized zones and a calm space that still fosters creativity. And the truth is, it is something we often recommend for our North Dakota families, especially when playrooms begin to feel overwhelming.
Toy rotation can make a huge difference. Instead of having every toy out all of the time, we created a smaller curated section of toys for everyday play and stored the rest away. We always make sure to keep out the favorites, the most played with, and the most loved. While keeping the others easily accessible for future rotations.
Benefits of toy rotation:
Fewer toys = less overwhelm
Kids play longer and with more creativity
Cleanup is faster (& more manageable)
Toys feel “new” again when rotated back in
Remember, toy rotation doesn’t need to be perfect to be effective. Even rotating a few toys or categories can make all the difference. We often hear from clients how much calmer their space feels after making this simple change.
Category‑based bins make toy rotation easy and effective. Favorites stay accessible, while other toys are stored neatly and rotated in, keeping play fresh without adding clutter.
Toy rotation creates space to play. By curating what’s out, we open up floor space for imagination, movement, and creativity—without overwhelming the room.
This playroom transformation is a reminder that organization isn’t about perfection. It is about creating systems that support your family through every season of life. Whether your family is growing, moving, or downsizing. When your home feels organized, there is more room for connection, creativity, and peace.
If your playroom feels overwhelming, we’re here for you. If you’re in Bismarck, Fargo, or the surrounding areas. We would love to meet you! And, we’re always happy to travel!
Cheers,
Lexi
