The Life-Changing Power of a 10-Minute Daily Declutter Habit
If we haven’t met yet — hi! I’m Lexi, owner of Organize with Lexi, serving the communities of Bismarck and Fargo. I go into homes every single day and help people create calm, functional spaces that finally feel good. I truly love what I do.
Recently, I have had the privilege of supporting a workplace wellness challenge, where we integrated simple organization into everyday life. It was simple. Once a week for four weeks, I challenged employees to organize different areas within their space.
I thought it would be fun to bring it to the blog this month. The next four weeks, I am going to challenge you to organize your space!
I sure hope you join me along the way! :)
Before we dive into anything organizing-related, I want to gently challenge a mindset that so many people get stuck in: the belief that getting organized begins with buying the “right” bins and containers.
Trust me. I love a beautiful organizer as much as anyone, but organizing doesn’t start with buying. It starts with letting go. When you release what no longer serves you, you create space for calm, clarity, and systems that truly work.
So today, let’s talk about a habit that is simple, approachable, and incredibly powerful:
The 10-minute declutter
This challenge is simple, approachable, and incredibly effective.
For just one week, choose a small area to focus on each day.
It can be anything, your entryway, a sock drawer, the linen closet, your nightstand, or even that one little corner you keep pretending you don’t see (we all have one!)
Set a timer for ten minutes and commit to sorting, decluttering, and putting items back where they belong.
If you’d rather have me break it down into easy steps:
Set a 10‑minute timer
Sort what’s there
Declutter what needs to go
Return items to their home
That’s all! Truly.
Ten minutes is often all you need to feel a noticeable shift.
What makes this habit so powerful is that it builds momentum quickly. Ten minutes doesn’t feel overwhelming, but the impact adds up fast. You begin to see small wins, and those wins make you want to keep going.
Your home slowly becomes lighter, more intentional, and easier to maintain, all without dedicating hours at a time.
It’s all about building habits.
And, this is the kind of habit that truly supports you long-term, and it's one I encourage everyone to try.
You deserve a home that feels calm, light, and supportive and this is the perfect place to start.
I hope you join me on this weekly challenge for the month of April! I can’t wait to hear about the spaces you organize (and what you might find along the way!)
Cheers,
Lexi
